Who says all of the dress up fun has to end with the humans in your family? Let Fido in on the Halloween action with these pet-friendly costume contests and barkfests so that all of the members of your family can have a howling good time this season.

Nassau Barkfest

Pet Costume Contest
Community Presbyterian Church 2101 William Place, Merrick

In addition to a pet costume contest at 2pm, the church is hosting a Blessing of the Animals at 1pm. Pumpkin picking and decorating, face painting, moon bounce, bagpipe music, Irish step dancing and other entertainment.

Suffolk Barkfest
The Holiday Inn, 3131 Nesconset Highway, Setauket
October 25, 12pm
The town of Brookhaven joins forces with Save-a-Pet, Little Shelter Animal Rescue and Adoption Center and the Suffolk County SPCA and 500 of the best dressed dogs for a pet costume contest and parade. DJ and pet-related exhibitors and animal rescue organizations will be on hand. All pets must be on leashes or in carriers and current with vaccinations. The festivities start at noon. Costume judging begins at 2pm with prizes awarded. Cost: Free

Pet Palace
500 Montauk Highway, Moriches
October 25, 11am-4pm
The Pet Palace in Moriches is celebrating its grand opening with the inaugural King or Queen of the Palace adoption event and contest. Bring your pets in their most fashionable outfits. All pets will receive a prize for entering. Cost: Free to enter.

Paws for a Cause Halloween Charity Dog Walk Contest
Northport Village, 9 Woodside Avenue, Northport
October 26, 10:30am registration; costume contest starts at 11:30am; dog walk starts at noon.
There will be several costume categories. Hay Rides and Petting Zoo will also be available at Northport Village Park after the walk presented by the Northport Chamber of Commerce. Call 631-930-9310 for more information. This is a rain or shine event.

Spooktacular Howl’oween Pet Parade
City Hall, 9 Glen Street, Glen Cove
October 26, 12pm-1pm
Pets of all species, shapes and sizes are welcome; costumes are optional. The undertaking will begin at Pulaski and Glen Streets with the final resting place in Village Square. Pets are urged to bring their human companions to the rear entrance of Glen Cove City Hall starting at 11am to register. Participants can also register in advance by downloading a registration form at www.glencove-li.us. There will be goodie bags and participation prizes for all.

Barktoberfest

This event will feature exhibits by animal welfare organizations and rescue groups. There will also be a costume contest and parade for the pets at 3pm.
