Kids of All Ages Can Get Creative While Learning at bubble

9/17/14 - By Linda DiProperzio

As a mom of two young boys, I’m always on the lookout for fun and interesting classes that will not only keep them occupied and entertained, but also help them learn something. And now that my older son is in kindergarten full-time, I need to find something to do with my younger boy, who is really missing his big brother during the day.

There’s certainly no shortage of places on Long Island offering different types of programs and workshops, so it takes something truly unique to catch my interest. Full disclosure here: I also wouldn’t mind if I could find the class fun, too. After all, these programs aren’t cheap, so I don’t want to spend the hour bored out of my mind. Luckily for me, just when I started my search, info about our sponsor bubble came across my desk. When I took a look at its selection of workshops and classes, I knew I had to check it out.

The first thing I noticed about bubble is that all of the classes are developed and taught by NY State Certified Teachers (bubble’s owner is a former teacher and mom of four). Each class is designed to promote skill-building in a fun environment. And with an experienced teacher in charge, I’m confident that the class will be well-organized. I’m all for free play, but I also appreciate when there is some sort of structure to a program. If I wanted my son to just run around, we could do that at home for free.

Another bonus at bubble is the variety of classes. There are so many to choose from, so both of my kids can find something that peaks their interest. I like the idea of going to the same place for these enrichment classes—you get a chance to know the staff and they build a rapport with your kids. My older son wants to learn the piano but is a little young for formal lessons, so Music for Little Mozarts, an intro to piano instruction for ages 3-5 years, fits the bill. And my little one is obsessed with dinosaurs, making Dinos, Bugs, Oh My! an obvious choice.

Other classes I want to check out include The Messy Book, which couples story time with an art project (and I don’t even have to clean up the mess), The Cook Book teaches little ones about different foods and age-appropriate cooking techniques, and Super Science and Construct is for kids that love to build and experiment. There are also classes in yoga, baby sign language, Italian for toddlers, fashion design, nursery/pre-K and kindergarten prep, art classes for special needs children and more.

This time of year, everyone's schedule gets a little crazier with school in session. I know that my family sometimes has a hard time committing to a multi-week class, so it’s nice to just hop in the car and go when we have nothing else to do. With that in mind, bubble has a drop-in Creativity Bar where kids and parents can experiment in soap making, beading, candle making, ceramics and more. Everything you need to get crafty (or in my case, try to be) is waiting for you, and the staff is on-hand to help.

For parents still looking for a preschool, bubble offers programs for 2-4 year-olds (including full day options) that emphasize play-based and creative learning. Call or email if interested. Bubble also offers birthday parties in a variety of themes, starting at $450 for 12 kids.

Whether it's a class or simply to drop-in and enjoy some crafting, bubble is sure to have something fun and educational for kids. And who knows? Mom and Dad might have a good time as well. For more ideas on enrichment programs, be sure to check out our Long Island Classes Guide.
