Easter Weekend for Long Island Kids: Egg Hunts, Peter Rabbit, Joshua Show April 4-5

It's Easter weekend and the continuation of spring break for most Long Island children. Catch a live performance or head to a local museum. Some egg hunts have been rescheduled due to last weekend's snow, so be sure to check our listings. Families can also head outside for some sun and silliness at an April Fool's Hike at Sagamore Hill.

All Weekend

Elephant & Piggies "We Are in a Play" - Smithtown. This musical experience is ripped from the pages of Mo Willems's children's book. Runs through April 11. Cost: $15.

Nano Days - Port Jefferson. At the Maritime Explorium, kids can explore the science of the small and see how nanotechnology affects your everyday life through cool activities. Cost: $5/person.

Weekend Workshop - Sayville. Each weekend a dedicated instructor at Mini Monet will lead your child in a craft/creation. Cost: $15.

Seal Cruise - Freeport. Hop aboard the Captain Lou in Freeport, hosted by the Riverhead Foundation to search for harbor seals and other mammal life. Runs through April 12. Cost: $19-$26.

Messy Afternoons at LICM – Garden City. At the Long Island Children’s Museum, all weekend long. Cost: Free with museum admission.

Saturday, April 4

The Joshua Show - Bridgehampton. At Goat on a Boat Puppet Theatre, Joshua is an award winning puppeteer actor and joy-maker based in Brooklyn. The Joshua Show inspires audiences across the nation, through live performances and online videos, to be themselves and help make the world a better place through gestures of kindness and love. Cost: $12 for everyone, $10 for members and grandparents and $8 for children under three years or additional child.

Peter Rabbit - East Islip. At BayWay Arts Center, this live play is shown on Saturday. Cost: $10/advance, $12/at the door.

Easter Bunny - Westbury. At Hicks Nurseries, visit the Easter Bunny on Friday and Saturday. Bring your own camera.Two sessions: 10am-12pm and 2-4pm. Cost: Free.

Spring Eggstravaganza - Merrick. At Fraser Park, kids can search for eggs on the lawn. Bring your own baskets. (Rescheduled from last weekend). Cost: Suggested donation of $1 per child.

Tiny Mouse Story Time - Bridgehampton. Story reading then head out to explore nature at the South Fork Natural History Museum. Cost: $7.

April Fool's Hike - Oyster Bay. At Sagamore Hill, this nature walk will meet behind the park's Visitor Center. It is free of charge and will last approximately 1 ½ hours. Please dress for the weather and bring a sense of humor. Cost: Free.

Let's Get This Garden Started - Bridgehampton. Help plant the Children's Museum of the East End's “seedlings” as they celebrate the arrival of spring! A local farmer will be on hand to help lead the workshop, teaching kids how to properly plant seeds and explain the ins and outs of getting them to grow. Cost: Free for members, $10 for non-members (includes admission to the Museum).

Egg Hunt & Spring Spectacular - Melville. At White Post Farms, join in the egg hunt Easter Bunny photos, crafts and more. Through April 5. Cost: $16 (cash only).

Egg Hunt - Bayville. At the Bayville Library, this event has been rescheduled from last weekend. Cost: Free.

Science Saturday at the Long Island Science Center – Riverhead. Enjoy a day at the Long Island Science Center. Cost: $5/person.

Sunday, April 5

Family Sundays at the Museum - Roslyn. Weekly events for families at the Nassau County Museum of Art.

Seatuck Family Nature Club - Islip. These programs will be geared around the current season and include topics such as seasonal birds, tremendous trees and signs of the season. Cost: Free.

Sunday Kids Club - East Hampton. Drop off kids for a 9am-12pm kids camp at Hampton Kids. Cost: $30-40.
