Long Island Kids' Activities December 7 & 8: Yuletide Family Day, Christmas Parade & Tree Lighting, Holiday Festival

Welcome to the first weekend in December. Explore how Christmas is celebrated in other parts of the world at the Hallockville Museum Farm. Enjoy an interactive holiday program with Johnny Cuomo at the Walt Whitman Birthplace NYS Historic Site. A Christmas parade, complete with lighted floats and costumed characters takes place at the Yaphank Fire Department. The streets of Stony Brook Village Center come alive with caroling, beautifully decorated Christmas trees, and a special visit by Santa. Also on tap: Village Christmas Tree & Menorah Lighting Ceremony in Westhampton Beach, and a Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony in West Babylon. Dickens Festival: Experience The Chandlery Of The 1800's - Port Jefferson
Stop by the Maritime Explorium for hot cider and popcorn, watch real steam powered ships set sail, and build a mini Mag Lev sled to test out on a magnetic track.

Saturday, December 7

Breakfast With Santa - Locations throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties
Change up the breakfast routine this morning and head to Applebee's. Santa pulls up in a fire truck and gives each child a turn to share their Christmas wishes. There are also raffle prizes and treats for the little ones.

Jolly Jump With Santa & Frosty - Great Neck
Head to Pump It Up for jumping, climbing, and sliding with Santa Claus and Frosty. Santa is also available for pictures. A bagel breakfast rounds out the morning.

Meet Santa - Ridge
Santa makes his way to Longwood Estate, where kids share their Christmas wishes, warm up with a cup of hot cocoa, create a holiday craft, visit with other holiday characters, and view an interactive train display.

Village Christmas Tree & Menorah Lighting Ceremony - Westhampton Beach
The Village Green & Gazebo is the place to be for caroling by the Westhampton Beach High School chorus and The Hampton Synagogue's Youth Choir. Enjoy hot cocoa and cookies, and the arrival of Santa Claus by fire engine.

Christmas Parade & Tree Lighting - Yaphank
This event at the Yaphank Fire Department kicks off with a craft fair inside the firehouse. Other highlights include a parade of lighted floats and costumed characters, as well as a Christmas tree lighting and caroling with Santa.

Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony - West Babylon
Take a trip to Belmont Lake State Park for a tree lighting, holiday music performed by a local school chorus, ice sculpting demonstrations, a fireworks display, and a visit from Santa.

Sunday, December 8

Yuletide Family Day With Santa & Johnny Cuomo - Huntington Station
Musician and storyteller Johnny Cuomo presents a holiday program at the Walt Whitman Birthplace NYS Historic Site. Featuring sing-alongs, a visit from Santa, cookie decorating, face painting, ornament making, old time interactive games, and guided tours of the museum.

Christmas At Hallockville - Riverhead
The Hallockville Museum Farm is filled with holiday cheer. Experience the traditions of Victorian and Polish Christmas. Other highlights include woodworking demonstrations, an antique toy exhibit, traditional holiday music, and horse-drawn carriage rides, along with a visit from Santa.

Holiday Festival - Stony Brook
Head to Stony Brook Village Center for live music by WALK-FM and holiday carolers, visit the petting zoo, and check out a model train display. View over 70 decorated trees along the pathways. Santa Claus makes an appearance on a horse-drawn carriage. A tree lighting rounds out the festivities.
