Long Island Kids' Activities June 28 & 29: Mud Day, Fireworks, Puppet Show, Ice Cream Social & More

Get down and dirty this weekend at the International Mud Day in Yaphank. Or take in some theater--puppet theater that is--at Goat on a Boat Puppet Theatre, where they're putting on Little Red Ridinghood.

At night, watch the sky light up with fireworks at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow or watch a movie under the stars in Long Beach.

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day - Northport. Alexander is having a really, really bad day. He wakes up with gum in his hair, his best friend abandons him on the playground and his mom forgets to pack dessert in his lunch box. Might as well pack up and move to Australia! Fr. Thomas Judge K of C & St. Anthony Family Festival - East Northport. Games, prizes, thrill rides, carnival food. Cost: pay per game/ride or buy a P.O.P. bracelet.

Saturday, June 28

Little Red Ridinghood at Goat on a Boat Puppet Theatre - Sag Harbor. Find out what happens when Little Red gets mixed-up with Porquois, the pig who's in the wrong story. Complete with changing scenery, music and charming hand puppets, this show will have them ratting on the wolf and cheering Little Red to safety. Cost: $12/ticket, $8 for kids under age 3.

International Mud Day - Yaphank. Admission includes a visit to the Butterfly House and all the mud you can wear. Activities include messy play, puddle jumping, crafts, visiting the barnyard and marching in the rubber boot parade. Wagon Rides $2 per person, Animal Feed $2 per bag.

Ice Cream Social at Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery & Aquarium - Cold Spring Harbor. Cost: Free with museum admission.

Pets Day - Farmingdale. Charity event for North Shore Animal League. Enter your dog in the pet fashion show for $10. Raffles and prizes. Nail clippings by Mobile Grooming. Cost: Free to attend.

Yummy Yoga - Bridgehampton. Families will enjoy magically-inspired arts and crafts, water rides, performances, games, music, food and more at the Children's Museum of the East End. Cost: $15 for members/$25 for non-members (cost includes museum admission).

Train a Seal, Kiss a Sea Lion at the Long Island Aquarium - Riverhead. Bring the kids to the Long Island Aquarium in Riverhead on Saturday for a fun-filled day of behind-the-scenes action. During the event, which runs from 10:15am to 2:15pm, kids will be able to get up close and personal with some of the creatures that call the aquarium home. Cost: $155 per person.

Science Saturday at the Long Island Science Center - Riverhead. Kids can learn and play at the Long Island Science Center with over 30 hands-on exhibits. The center is open from 11am to 4pm. Cost: $5 per person.

Celebrate America at Eisenhower Park - East Meadow. Celebrate America at the Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre in Eisenhower Park. The fireworks, presented by Grucci family fireworks family kicks off at 5:30pm with a concert. Cost: free (free tickets for concert are available at any TD Bank)

Saturday Nights on the Beach - Long Beach. The local civic association is presenting the movie, "Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory" at Virginia Beach, 8:30 p.m. Cost: free.

Sunday, June 29

Cardboard Boat Race - Riverhead. Bring the kids to watch cardboard boats race down the Peconic River at the 5th Annual Cardboard Race, which starts at 9am and is sponsored by the Town of Riverhead. Creative families can also build their own cardboard boats to race. Cost: free.

Make a Water Filter - Bridgehampton. Children ages 6-10 are invited to the Environmental Science Lab to learn how to make dirty water clean by constructing a filter made of natural materials, starting at 10am. The program, which is sponsored by SoFo, is only available by pre-registering by calling 631-537-9735. Cost: $7 per adult, $5 per child. The fees include all-day admission to the SoFo museum.

Lego Club -Bridgehampton. Play with Legos in the entryway of the Children's Museum of the East End. Cost: free with paid admission.

Mommy/Daddy Me Anti-Gravity Yoga - Bellmore. Have your little one explore the Anti-Gravity hammocks while building basic motor skills. All kids AGY classes are structured to introduce basic life skills and build confidence in a light-hearted way while having fun. Cost: $20.

Family Sundays at the Nassau County Museum of Art - Roslyn. Each Sunday, Nassau County Museum of Art offers a 1pm docent-led family walk-through of the exhibition and supervised art activities for the whole family beginning at 1:30pm. Special family-friendly gallery guides of the main exhibition are available in the galleries.

Bug Bonanza - Garden City. Discover the amazing lives and natural history of insects, spiders and other creepy crawly creatures at the Long Island Children's Museum. Cost: program is free with paid museum admission.
