Set up Your Own Farmers’ Market with a Special Offer from Farmigo

We all want to feed our kids fresh and healthy food every day, but it's not always easy to do (or afford). But a new site is simplifying the process, allowing people to put fresh, local and sustainable food on the table each and every week.

Farmigo connects communities with local farms and food artisans, allowing people to order a variety of fresh foods (seasonal fruits, veggies and dairy—with fish and meat coming soon) from different sources, and picking it all up in one convenient location. To celebrate its launch, the site is offering a special promotion for new Long Island members: Get $30 worth of food for only $10. Pick up is on November 20th at Prime Catch (41 South Park Avenue in Rockville Centre) from 12pm to 2pm, and the promo expires on November 17th.  Simply click on this link to order: http://www.farmigo.com/rockvillecentremp.

Here’s how it works: Members order exactly what they want online from local farms. Unlike Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) groups where you don’t always get a choice in what you get, Farmigo lets you select from a number of sustainable farms and you can change your order every week if you want. You simply pick and choose your preferred items, and then have your order delivered weekly to your nearby  pickup location—called a Farmigo food community—within 48 hours of harvest.

Recently, Farmigo launched its “Champion Initiative,” where anyone can start their own local food business through the site. A “Champion” (or community food leader) invites people to join Farmigo and determines a location to distribute the food (such as your home, school, church, community center, etc.). Champions receive 10 percent of their food community sales. The site offers online marketing tools, a community dashboard to help manage orders and advice/support from other Champions.

While there's no shortage of pick-your-own farms and farmers’ markets on Long Island, most of us don't have the time to visit these places on a weekly basis. Farmigo combines the best of both worlds: You get your favorite fresh foods delivered to one place, which helps to create a true food community. At pickups people can chat about recipes, entertaining and more. Who knows? Maybe someone has ideas on how to get kids to eat their vegetables!
