Trick or Treating Events on Long Island

A few years ago, Superstorm Sandy made it impossible for many Long Island kids to trick or treat outside. Hopefully, we won't see anything like Sandy again, but extreme cold or rain can make going door-to-door quite a task. Or if you have small kids, crossing streets and going up and down front stoops can be a challenge. If you are looking for an alternative to going house to house, we've come up with this list of different trick-or-treating alternatives. Halloween Happenings: Trunk or Treat
1370 Majors Path, Southampton
October 31, 2015, 1pm-3pm
The Rec Center is holding a trunk-or-treat event. While this is not an indoor event, it takes place in the recreation center's parking lot. Cost: Free

Long Beach Kennedy Plaza
October 31, 2015, 11am
Arts in the Plaza will present a trick-or-treating event at Kennedy Plaza. The event will also feature live music, hula hoop contest and a costume parade. Cost: Free

Long Island Children's Museum
11 Davis Avenue, Garden City
October 24, 2015 6pm-9pm
The Ghostly Gala allows children to make their own goody bag and trick-or-treat. Kids can also make crafts and meet live animals. Cost: $10 per person.

Tanger Outlets
152 The Arches Circle, Deer Park
October 31, 2015, 12pm-8pm
Tanger Outlets is hosting a trick-or-treat event on Halloween. While the center is not entirely indoors, there are overhangs and a safe walking area. All stores will be handing out candy to visiting ghosts and goblins, provided they feature a Halloween decal on their entrance. Cost: Free

Stony Brook Center
Main Street, Stony Brook
October 31, 2015, 2pm
The Stony Brook Center is hosting a Halloween Festival, featuring Trick-or-Treating at local merchants. The event will also feature a scarecrow competition and games. Cost: Free

Westhampton Beach 
October 31, 2015, 3pm-5:30pm
Main Street in Westhampton Beach will be open to trick-or-treaters (but closed to traffic) between Mill Road and Mitchell Road. Cost: Free

Islip Town
410 Main Street, Islip
October 31, 6pm-8:30pm
Kids can trick-or-treat at local businesses after hearing a spooky story at Islip Town Hall. Cost: Free

Smith Haven Mall 
Route 25, Smith Haven
October 31, 3pm-5pm
The Smith Haven Mall is inviting families to trick-or-treat at participating mall retailers, who will be giving out treats. Cost: Free 

The Long Island Aquarium & Exhibition Center
431 E. Main Street, Riverhead
November 1, 2015, 10am-4pm
The Aquarium will hold a trick-or-treating adventure featuring face painting, crafts, game stations, hay rides and pumpkins to paint. Cost: Boys and Girls in Costume get 50 percent off regular admission.
