Winter Fun at the Suffolk County Farm

The Suffolk County Farm, located in Yaphank, is a working farm that offers year-round fun and educational opportunities for the family. Even during the winter months, activity on the farm doesn’t stop, and there are plenty of opportunities to learn about life on it. A collection of weekly activities and special events are offered and designed for children of all ages. So if you’re looking for something fun to do to get the kids out of the house and break those winter doldrums, check out what’s going on at the farm.

Winter Learn and Play
You and your children can discover what life is like on the farm during the winter months through the Winter Learn and Play activities. This program, which is offered each week throughout the month of January, provides children with stories, crafts, songs, hands-on activities and even a wagon ride and a snack. A new theme is explored each week. The program is as follows:

Ages 15-23 months: Tuesday, January 7, 14, 21, 28

Age 2: Wednesday, January 8, 15, 22, 29

Age 3: Monday, January 6, 13, 27

Ages 3-4: Thursday, January 9, 16, 23, 30

 

We Are Family
Celebrate Valentine’s Day all month! The We Are Family program offers children and their caretakers an opportunity to learn about the wonderful bonds of family. During these classes, you’ll make treats and crafts, and you’ll also learn about the importance of family. Dates and ages for this program are as follows:

Ages 15-23 months: Tuesday, February 4, 11, 15

Age 2: Wednesday, February 5, 12, 26

Age 3: Monday, February 3, 10, 24

Ages 3-4: Thursday, February 6, 13, 27

 

Spring is Coming
As winter starts to come to a close, see how the farm begins making preparations for the new season through the Spring is Coming classes. You’ll explore how life changes on the farm between the winter and spring. Classes for this program are as follows:

Ages 15-23 months: Tuesday, March 4, 11, 18, 25

Ages 2: Wednesday, March 5, 12, 19, 26

Age 3: Monday, March 3, 10, 17, 24

Age 3-4: Thursday, March 6, 13, 20, 27

There is a fee of $10 per child, per class, and a fee of $5 is charged for siblings who are over the age of 12 months. Siblings under 12 months are free. Pre-registration is also required, and can be done by calling 631-852-4600 between the hours of 9am and 3pm.
