Now that school is back in full swing and kids are adjusting to their new schedules, homework, and teachers, it's also time to search for after school programs. From tutoring centers to educational classes, there are many options available for additional enrichment. Children sharpen their skills while engaging in fun and interactive activities. Tutoring Centers

Huntington Learning Center
Locations are throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties

For over 35 years, Huntington Learning Center helps students succeed. The center offers tutoring programs for all grade levels to improve academic skills such as reading, writing, math, and phonics. Subject specific tutoring is also available for math and science courses. Exam prep programs help prepare students for the SAT, ACT, and AP Exams, as well as state standardized tests.

Kumon
Locations are throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties

Kumon is the world's largest after school reading and math program. The Kumon method is designed to improve academic skills while encouraging independent learning. Classes are available for preschool through 12th grade students. The math program helps children develop calculation, reasoning, and problem solving techniques, while the reading program increases vocabulary, writing ability, and reading comprehension.

Mathnasium
Locations are throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties

Mathnasium is founded by a math teacher and trainer who created an innovative way to teach kids math. The Mathnasium method provides children with the confidence, critical thinking, and mathematical skills needed for success in the classroom. Students are evaluated and customized programs are developed for each child in response to their specific needs. The program is available for preschool through high school age children.

JEI Learning Center
Locations throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties

JEI offers assistance to students in grades Kindergarten through 9th grade in mastering math, English and reading comprehension.  In addition to these enrichment programs, JEI also offers its Lil’ Genius Program, which is divided into two groups: Explorers for kids 3 to 4 years old incorporates elements of literacy and math with a mixture of hands-on activities, communication, public speaking skills and focus on language and numbers, while Discoverers is for children 4 to 5 years old that utilizes JEI signature programs in a subject-based curriculum along with developmentally appropriate activities. 

 

Clubs And After School Centers

Kiddie Academy
Locations are throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties
Kiddie Academy offers a variety of options, including infant and toddler daycare, as well as before and after school programs for older children. The Creative Explorers program for 6-12 year olds develops math, language arts, and creative arts skills through engaging activities such as building blocks, making collages, and creating treasure maps.

Boys and Girls Clubs of America
Locations in Glen Head, Hempstead, Hicksville, and Locust Valley
Boys and Girls Clubs are a wonderful place for kids to hang out in a safe and supportive environment. Programs vary from club to club, so be sure to check out the nearest location before joining. Inquire about outdoor time, adult supervision, and the bullying policy. Typically, families pay a nominal membership fee, which allows kids access to the club and its game rooms, as well as homework help. Additional fees are required for participation in classes, which vary from site to site.

YMCA of Long Island
Locations are throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties
The YMCA is a safe and nurturing environment for kids to grow and learn. The focus is on developing healthy relationships while fostering trust, respect, independence, and responsibility. A variety of enrichment classes are offered, as well as an aquatics program, sports teams, and fitness centers. Teen programs, which include weekday and weekend options, are also available at select locations.

This unique venue provides art and science programs for children ages 2 and up. Preschool and elementary age kids get their hands dirty in educational classes such as Crazy Concoctions and Creative Arts Explorations. Older students enroll in after school science or art courses, which encourage creativity and learning through the exploration of various topics.
