Long Island Kids' Activities August 4 and 5: How to Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular and Caillou

There are lots of good kids' shows in town this weekend, like How to Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular at Nassau Coliseum and Caillou and the Doodlebops at NYCB Theatre at Westbury. There's also a great Ice Cream Social in Southhold and a Country Fair in Shelter Island. Check out our events calendar for more fun things to do with your family this weekend or whenever.

Ice Cream Social
Southold Historical Society

If lots and lots of ice cream, pony rides, music, and  traditional games run by the Maritime Pirates sounds fun, head over to the Southold Historical Society's Museum complex on the corner of Main Street and Maple Lane for an old-fashioned Ice Cream Social. The museum buildings will also be open for touring and include an old schoolhouse, a blacksmith's shop, a carriage house, and the Victorian Curie-Bell house with its collection of antique dolls and toys, including a dollhouse made from soapboxes.

One Day in History Country Fair
Havens House Museum
Shelter Island

Take the ferry to Shelter Island and enjoy a historically themed country fair at the Havens House Museum. This year's theme is "Our Agrarian Past" and there is a $1 discount per person if you come in "farm attire." For children there will be pony and hay rides, a petting zoo and marine touch tank, arts and crafts, and games for prizes. There is even an old stocks that kids can try sticking their heads and hands in. All activities are free with admission.  For adults there is a chance to visit the museum, a 1743 family house with period furnishings, an abundance of interesting antique tools and vehicles, demonstrations of period crafts, and a raffle. Hamburgers, hot dogs, watermelon, a bake sale, cotton candy, and sno-cones can be purchased if you get hungry.
