Christmas Tree Lightings on Long Island

The holiday season inspires many of us to take in a holiday show, shop for gifts and drink hot cocoa, and, of course, attend a tree lighting ceremony to kick off the season the right way. Rockefeller Center may only be a train ride away, but there are plenty of festive and spectacular tree lighting ceremonies right on Long Island. Here are 11 tree lighting events that are taking place across Nassau and Suffolk counties this season.

The Life Lutheran Church — Old Westbury
December 3 from 3-6pm 
Arrive earlier than sunset to enjoy hot soups, pretzels and snacks, baked treats, spiced lattes, cotton candy, and hot cocoa. Stay awhile and prepare to be entertained by live music provided by Rachel Kurtz and the Life Day School Singers at 4 p.m. The grand finale starts at 5:30 p.m. when the church lights its brilliant 75-foot Oriental Spruce with 8,000 lights. 

Plainview Hospital Holiday Spectacular and Tree Lighting — Plainview 
December 11 from 3-6 p.m.
Plainview Hospital is hosting its first ever holiday spectacular and tree lighting ceremony this year. Guests will enjoy live music, entertainment, a petting zoo, a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus, photo opportunities with their Christmas tree, menorah, and snow globe, and even gifts. 

Tree Trimming at Fire Island Lighthouse — Captree Island
November 26 from 10am-3pm
Keeping with the ocean theme, guests are encouraged to bring nautical ornaments to help decorate their tree. Stay for awhile and enjoy free cookies and hot chocolate.

Tree Lighting Ceremony at St. Luke's Lutheran Church — Farmingdale
December 3 from 4:30-6pm
This popular community event is so beloved it attracts adults and children from neighboring towns. 

Bellport Village's Tree Lighting Ceremony — Bellport
December 3 from 6-7pm
Kickstart your holiday season by visiting Bellport Village Green, strolling this quaint and charming town, and taking in the beauty of their tree lighting ceremony.

Northport's Christmas Tree Lighting — Northport
November 25 from 7-10pm
Bring on sweet caroling and an opportunity to see the Northport Christmas Tree in all of its glory as it is lit up in Northport Village Park.

Huntington's Seventh Annual Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting — Huntington
November 26 at 6pm
Huntington's seventh annual holiday event isn't just a parade or a tree lighting — it's a holiday extravaganza filled with fun activities like a scavenger hunt, gingerbread house competition, entertainment by The North Shore Pops, face painting, bouncy houses, a visit from Santa, and more. Show up early to shop on Small Business Saturday and engage in arts and crafts and stay for the tree lighting and even a free cup of hot cocoa. 

St. James' Christmas Tree Lighting at Deepwell's Farm Historic Park — St. James
December 3 at 4:30pm
Pose for photos with Santa Claus, enjoy live music, and enter a raffle to win a bicycle before settling in to watch the town light up its majestic tree.

Levittown Chamber of Commerce Holiday Tree Lighting at Veterans Memorial Park — Levittown
December 5 from 6-8pm
Celebrate the holidays with entertainment by locals schools, dance schools, and community groups, a visit by Santa and — of course — Levittown's annual tree lighting ceremony. In the event of rain or snow, the event will move to the Community Room of the Levittown Public Library. 

20th Annual Fire Truck Parade of Lights at Southampton Village — Southampton
November 26 from 4:30-6 pm
Rain or shine the annual fire truck parade will kick off the evening's festivities, followed by the Christmas tree lighting, party with Santa at the Southampton Cultural Center and refreshments and caroling. 

Oyster Bay 12th Annual Holiday Tree Lighting at Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park — Oyster Bay
December 9 at 6pm (Gates open at 5:30pm)
Join carolers under a 35-foot Japanese Umbrella Pine that will be lit by Santa himself. Then party with Santa in the Hay Barn and enjoy refreshments, tour Coe Hall and view their magnificent holiday decorations, and check out the beautiful poinsettia displays in the Main Greenhouse. Admission is free.
