Bees and Butterflies, and other Pollinators
Sunday, July 11, 1-3:30pm
Families
$5/person for members, $6 for non-members
Discover the wondrous lives of nature's amazing pollinators. Go on a
scavenger hunt in the butterfly house, meet a beekeeper, and visit the
rain forest to learn more about the relationship between animals and
flowers. You can also create a pollinator craft.




Gardens, Gardens, and More Gardens
Saturday, July 24th, 1-2:30pm
Families
$5/persson for members, $6/person for non-members
You can go on a treasure hunt to learn the secrets of the plants of Sweetbriar, meet their resident animals and even take something home to help you grow your own garden. Animal Story-telling

Nature at Night

 A nighttime event! Enjoy an evening of nature exploration. Meet live owls and other nocturnal critters, and use all of your senses to search the meadows and forest for signs of animals--the hunters and their prey. You'll find that the woods do not have to be scary. And then you can drive that lesson home by sitting in front of a campfire and scarfing up some s'mores. Volunteer Day: Pellets and Pizza Party!

Join Sanctuary staff for a special day of hands-on scientific research. Learn the natural history of local owls and even dissect owl pellets! And after that, of course, a pizza party. The following programs are part of the "Tiny Tots" series and are geared towards ages 3 - 5. ALL programs are on Thursdays and run from 10-11am.  Reservations are required.  Please call 631-265-1054.  Costs are $3/child and $8/car for parking.

8          Hi Little Dragonfly:  Enjoy hands on activities followed by outdoor observation of these wonderful creatures in their natural habitat.
 
22        Beat the Heat:  How exactly do animals stay cool in the blistering summer heat?  Find out with indoor activities followed by some good old fashioned fun.  A baby pool and sprinkler will be set up outside to help beat the heat.  (Swimsuits, sunscreen, water shoes or sneakers and a towel are recommended).

5          Slither like a Snake:  Figure out just how snakes get around without legs through this informative program which will be followed by a craft.
 
19        Precipitation Observation:  Everything from rain showers to tornadoes will be discussed in this action packed class.  Some simple science experiments and a craft will make learning about weather a breeze.

2          A Snail’s Trail:  Investigate the silvery trails left behind when snails travel, through reading, activities and a craft.
 
16        Quack like a Duck:  Ducks are amazing birds with some very specific adaptations.  A costume, activities, a craft and outdoor observations will keep the group busy.
 
30        Changing Seasons: Discover how the park changes as summer slips away and autumn begins through activities and a craft.
