Family-Friendly Events in the East End, Hamptons and North Fork, June 28-29

We're nearly at the last weekend of June, and the Hamptons and the North Fork are featuring numerous family-friendly events from the Start of Summer Carnival to the annual cardboard boat race in Riverhead. Below, we list the ten must-attend events during the weekend of June 28 through June 29.

All Weekend

Start of Summer Carnival, Southampton 
The Elks Club of Southampton is sponsoring a carnival that will run all weekend, from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday at their headquarters, 605 County Road 39. The carnival will feature rides, games and food. Cost: Free admission, POP rides $30, $20 advance sale

Saturday, June 28

Artisan Craft Fair
Bideawee Adoption Center of Westhampton Beach is featuring an artisan craft fair and adoption event at its headquarters on 118 Old Country Road, from 10am to 3pm. The event will feature lots of handmade crafts and animals who need homes. Cost: Free

Train a Seal, Kiss a Sea Lion at the Long Island Aquarium, Riverhead
Bring the kids to the Long Island Aquarium in Riverhead on Saturday for a fun-filled day of behind-the-scenes action. During the event, which runs from 10:15am to 2:15pm, kids will be able to get up close and personal with some of the creatures that call the aquarium home. Cost: $155 per person.

Science Saturday at the Long Island Science Center, Riverhead
Kids can learn and play at the Long Island Science Center with over 30 hands-on exhibits. The center is open from 11am to 4pm. Cost: $5 per person.

Classic Car Show, Shelter Island
Bring the whole family to the 3rd annual Classic Car Show,sponsored by the Shelter Island Historical Society. The event will feature pre-1970 cars and fire department engines. The event starts at 3pm at 16 South Ferry Road. Cost: $10 adults; children under 12 are free.

Drip Painting, East Hampton
Kids will absolutely enjoy learning to create drip paintings at a program offered at the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center, 830 Springs Fireplace Road from 10am to 11:30am. Also during the painting session, kids can meet children's book author/artist Joyce Raimondo. Cost: $35 per person

Duct Tape Summer Tote, Bridgehampton
Kids love to create with duct tape, and at 2pm at the Hampton Library in Bridgethampton, located at 2478 Main Street, kids can create a summer tote using nothing but duct tape. Cost: Free

Puppet Show, Sag Harbor
Kids ages 2 to 7 are invited to the Goat on a Boat Puppet Theater, located at 4 Hampton Street, at 11am to watch a puppet show, featuring Little Red Ridinghood. Your kids will cheer as Little Red gets mixed-up with Porquoi, a pig who's in the wrong story. Cost: $12 adults, $10 children

Sunday, June 29

Make a Water Filter, Bridgehampton
Children ages 6-10 are invited to the Environmental Science Lab to learn how to make dirty water clean by constructing a filter made of natural materials, starting at 10:00 a.m. The program, which is sponsored by SoFo, is only available by pre-registering by calling 631-537-9735. Cost: $7 per adult, $5 per child. The fees include all-day admission to the SoFo museum.

Cardboard Boat Race, Riverhead
Bring the kids to watch cardboard boats race down the Peconic River at the 5th Annual Cardboard Race, which starts at 9am and is sponsored by the Town of Riverhead. Creative families can also build their own cardboard boats to race. The race starts at the Peconic Riverfront, 31 McDermott Avenue. Cost: Free
