Long Island Kids' Activities April 25, 26 & 27: Earth Day Celebrations, Festivals, Live Theater & More

There are several fun festivals this weekend sure to engage the whole family. The kids can also interact with various sea and land creatures at the Fish Hatchery Festival in Cold Spring Harbor, learn about chickens, farming and wool making at Chick-a-Palooza at Garden of Eve Farm in Aquebogue, check out the Arbor Day Festival in Oyster Bay, which will feature a kid's tree climb, planting clinics and other fun activities, or celebrate Earth Day at the Quogue Wildlife Refuge.

The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley - Northport. The beloved children's books written by Jeff Brown in 1964 have become a literary and pop culture phenomenon, delighting readers and travelers all over the world. Now everyone's favorite two dimensional hero is brought to life on stage.

Kids Fest - Merrick. Outdoor events, activities, vendors and a carnival. Free admission.

Chick-a-Palooza - Riverhead. A celebration of homesteading, farming and Earth Day at Garden of Eve Farm. Chicken tours, wool workshop and cooking demo included. New this year is a chicken showmanship show. Free.

Arbor Day Family Festival - Oyster Bay. Enjoy a kid's tree climb by Wonderland Tree Care, petting zoo, face painting, a caricaturist, airbrush tattoos, plant clinics and more at the Planting Fields Arboretum.

Messy Afternoons - Garden City (LICM). A hands-on, multi-sensory experience.

EcoFest Celebration - Alberston. The free two-day interactive environmental festival features crafts, and lawn games and musical performances.

Saturday, April 26

National Park Week - Oyster Bay. At Sagamore Hill. Kids can take part in National Junior Ranger Day events, nature walks, presentations and more. Free.

Earth Day - Massapequa Park. Join the celebration at Brady Park. Free.

Earth Day Celebration - Quogue Wildlife Refuge. Guided nature walks, live animal presentations, crafts for children, environmental exhibitors, and self-guided kayaking and canoeing on Old Ice Pond. Free.

Town of Islip Earth Day Celebration - Sayville.  Entertainment and environmental awareness programs throughout the day. Poster contest, vendors, etc. Free.

Fish Hatchery Festival - Cold Spring Harbor. Petting zoo, live animal encounters and more, plus fishing for kids ages 12 and under.

Train a Seal, Kiss a Lion - Riverhead (Aquarium). From now throughout September, Long Island Aquarium visitors will have a unique opportunity to get up close to seals and sea lions each Saturday.

Water Charades - Bridgehampton. At the South Fork Natural History Museum, children can take turns acting out how people, plants and animals use water. Walk outside to collect items for this activity as well.

Science Saturdays - Riverhead (Long Island Science Center). Play and explore over 30 hands-on exhibits and weekly themes.

Oyster Bay Town Family Spring Festival - Massapequa. Inflatables, games, prizes, crafts, petting zoo, refreshments and much more. Free.

Stony Brook Village Spring Appreciation Day - Stony Brook. The afternoon will feature a petting zoo, a magician, performances by the Long Island’s Got Talent 2014 semi-finalists, Walkie Bear and WALK radio, special one-day sales at our retailers and a free art show at the Educational & Cultural Center. There will also be horse-drawn carriage rides available for $3 per person.

Royal Princess Tea Party - Ronkonkoma. Princess ballet performance followed by photos with the cast and refreshments. 

101 Dalmatians - East Islip. In London, dalmatian parents, Pongo and Perdita, happily raise their dalmatian puppies, until the monstrous Cruella De Ville plots to steal them for her new fur coat! Live performance. Tickets are $10 in advance; $12 at the door.

The Adventures of Peter Rabbit - Port Jefferson. Peter, Flopsy, Mopsy, Cotton-Tail, Benjamin Bunny, the McGregors and all their friends come to life in this adaption suggested by the characters created by Beatrix Potter. Tickets are $10.

Brady Ramer in Concert - Jamesport. Brady and his rootsy rockin' band will perform new songs from his June release, "Just Say Hi!"

National Day of Puppetry - Sag Harbor. The Puppet Club will present their original puppet show. Following the performance, they will have free puppet making workshops and a Minkie the Monkey puppet show.

Sunday, April 27

Yogi Stars - Bellmore. Ages 4-7. Kid Stars classes are for yogis ages 4-7 years old with a little more experience separating from caregivers, and a strong curiosity about the world around them.

Earth Day at the Museum - Roslyn. It offers a gallery tour, followed by hands-on art making, and guided by an art educator. Families will create flowers, paper bag animals and insects.

Family Seal Walk - Montauk. A State Park naturalist will lead visitors on a 2-3 hour leisurely beach walk to an area where up to four species of seals can be observed. Along the way, there will be opportunities to see many winter birds and to explore marine geology. Please dress appropriately and wear comfortable footwear for hiking.

Got Talent? Long Island Auditions - Hempstead. A talent competition for performers 18 years & under. Comedians, dancers, musicians, singer-songwriters, poets, magicians are encouraged to audition.
