Things to do with kids: Long Island Kids' Activities December 22 and 23: The Nutcracker, Gingerbread Decorating, and Miracle on 34th Street the Musical

It's the weekend before Christmas! If you celebrate, no doubt you've got lots of last-minute shopping to do. But the kiddies still need to be entertained. We've got you covered. Santa's at the Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery again, there's a great production of the Nutcracker at the LIU Tilles Center, the Cupcake Corner in Garden City's got gingerbread decorating, Take One Theatre has a couple of holiday productions this weekend, and the there's Family Sundays once again at the Nassau County Museum of Art. Now there's even more reason for families to plan the weekend around a visit to Nassau County Museum of Art. Each Sunday the museum offers a 1 p.m. docent-led family walk-through of the exhibition and supervised art activities for the whole family beginning at 1:30 p.m. Special family guides of the main exhibition are available in the galleries. Family Sundays at the Museum is free with museum admission, reservations are not needed. Weekends only there is a $2 parking fee (members, free).

The Eglevsky Ballet performs its production of Laszlo Berdo's The Nutcracker. This holiday favorite unites new choreography with Tchaikovsky's score. The Nutcracker by The Eglevsky Ballet is an annual treat for the families of Long Island, danced to the masterpiece Tchaikovsky, while bringing Clara's magical holiday journey to life.

Join us again for a festive and fun gingerbread decorating session. Our assistants will be present to review instructions for assembly and decorating, serve you our famous homemade hot cocoa, provide you with instructions and materials to create Christmas ornaments, and your children will have fun listening to our elves read The Nutcracker and complete holiday crafts. Reservations and prepayment required, sessions begin promptly. Guests with fewer than 8 people will share a table. Pricing varies dependent upon item(s) chosen to decorate. Choose between a traditional gingerbread house with gingerbread cookies or a gingerbread cake with gingerbread cookies.
